Check Your School Calendar (and be patient for the change)

Many school districts adjust for new June primary date

By Sandy N. - Morris East Publisher February 11, 2025

On December 31, 2024, Governor Murphy signed into law a change in the Primary Election date for June.   With many schools doubling as polling places, districts around the state often close the school for student safety or do a professional development day with no students present.

Now, with election day moving from June 3 to June 10, we are starting to see districts around the County voting in a change in their calendar.  That means if you have perfectly figured out your care days or put it in for a vacation day months ago, it's time to dust off those plans and regroup.  If you are running short on vacation days to take off with the kids, check out these great options. We'll update our Spring Camp Mini Guide as soon as we hear of special camp days.

Students by New Jersey law must meet 180 days and teachers vary by union contract from 185-190 days. This means, the change is probably inevitable if your district closes on election day.

To date, we have seen changes to calendars from June 3 to June 10 for:

Morris School District
Parsippany
